Deciding On A Pool Design

Why do people buy swimming pools? Here in Texas, that’s a pretty simple question to answer It’s HOT!

Other than that obvious answer, however, people have other reasons for building pools too. Some want to show off their lifestyle and good taste; others are looking for relaxation in a resort-style atmosphere; many people choose to build a pool for health reasons, and most want a place to build memories. Depending on your reasoning to buy a pool, you have many options available to you.

If you’re mainly building a pool for the look & feel of the atmosphere

You probably want your pool to look gorgeous. You want it to match the style of your home, and you want it to reflect your lifestyle. Glass tile is a great addition to the design. It will reflect the sunlight perfectly and add a little glamour to your pool that you wouldn’t get with standard tile.

The other thing you may want to consider is the color & style of your plaster. Every plaster will create a different water color. Check out all of the water colors you can have with Pebble Tec, Sheen, Fina & Beadcrete on the Pebble Tec website.

If you’re building a pool for relaxation
relaxation
You want a place to sit back and unwind after work or a place to have your morning coffee as you think about the day ahead of you. If that’s the case, you may want to add some water features. The tranquil sounds of a bubbling waterfall are calming. In fact, Wallace J. Nichols coined the term “Blue Mind” (the name of his book), which, according to the Washington Post is the “relaxed state that we find ourselves in when we are in, on or under water.” You should add a patio area under a nice shade tree for a small table and a few chairs so you can sit down with a good book and listen to the moving water. A spa would also be a great addition for relaxation.

If you’re looking to stay healthy

Water is the best place to exercise. You can swim laps, jog in place, or do some low-impact stretching. It is easy on your joints, and it increases your flexibility and range of motion. Swimming involves many muscle groups that are otherwise untouched with typical daily activities. If you’re looking to use your pool for exercise, you’ll want it to have a clean lap lane and a minimum of 3’6″ depth. Don’t worry if you have a small backyard though. You can have a relatively small pool and add a Fastlane (shown in the photo above), which creates an adjustable current to swim against, so you can swim at a more constant pace.

If you’re looking for a place to build memories
place
You want a place for the family to gather and have fun and a place to entertain friends and enjoy each others’ company. If this is your main reason for building a swimming pool, think about adding a sun shelf. The sun shelf is a six-inch deep area at the entrance of the pool where you could put loungers or have a small area for younger children to play. We’ve even seen dogs who don’t like to fully jump in the water enjoying their sun shelf. An outdoor kitchen is another must-have. Nothing says summer memories like barbecuing by the pool!

All in all, you want your pool to enrich your life. You want it to provide fun, enjoyment and pleasure, and that’s what we’re here to do for you. Nothing gives us better satisfaction than knowing our customers have a higher quality of life thanks to the work we do for them.

Water & Fire Feature Additions

The addition of water and fire features can enhance your entire outdoor experience in a variety of ways. • Water Features:
    • Adding water features, such as delightful bubblers on an existing sun shelf, lively deck jets around your pool’s coping, and stunning sheer descents or scuppers that allow water to gently cascade down a raised pool wall, provides gorgeous highlights and accents to your pool that you can marvel at.
    • Waterfalls create a cozy, perennial and soothing look and feel to any pool. The beautifully colored stones and gently flowing water can bring balance and harmony to your outdoor space and transform your entire outdoor experience.
  • Fire Features:
    • Fire bowls, fire pits and custom fire accent features give way to a spectacular display of color, vibrancy and light that allow you and your family to enjoy your pool day and night. Discover how the elements of water and fire combined create a magnetic and harmonious balance and produce a gorgeous chemistry that’s both subtle and bold.

Decking & Spa Additions

  • Added Deck Space
    • Expanding the amount of decking in your back yard can allow for more space to entertain and relax poolside. Imagine a new patio addition around your pool to place a set of comfortable lounging chairs, a stylish outdoor dining spot, a stunning outdoor kitchen area or a striking fire pit and seating area.
  • Add a Spa
    • Adding a spa to your existing pool is a great way to bring a new level of functionality and enjoyment to your personal outdoor retreat. Spas offer a therapeutic experience and, with vast array of styles and custom features from which to choose, your new spa will not only relax and invigorate you, it can become the focal point of your pool and serve as an energetic and complementary addition to its entire design.

New Pool Amenities

  • Are you looking to find new ways to spend time in your pool? Adding a swim-up bar, a sun shelf, and umbrella anchors can boost your experience and bring a new level of luxury to your outdoor space.
  • For added recreational fun, consider incorporating a water slide, a diving board, a basketball goal or a volleyball anchor.
  • You can even add or relocate steps and seat benches in your pool, or have new LED lights installed to broaden your pools functionality and visual appeal.

What Happy Customers Are Saying About Us

We had a cocktail pool installed by KZP and the pool turned out fantastic. We received quotes from two other pool companies, and while KZP was the higher, they were also the only ones willing to work with our custom design. They use top-quality materials and offered a huge selection of pool fittings/finishes. Kent Ely in sales was easy to work with and was pressure-free at making the sale. Bill Sturgis was our site supervisor (we didn't see him very often but was very responsive to email, phone calls, or text messages). Elizabeth, in the design department, was fun to work with while we picked color scheme and tiles. They had a very small space to work with and they did what they had to do to make it work. I would recommend KZP to anyone.

We are very excited to start using our Kieth Zar's pool this summer. They turned our backyard into our dream. Tony came out and answered all our questions on the initial visit, and measured everything in our backyard, including trees. He returned the next week with an outstanding design on paper and a 3-D model on the computer that made it come to life. We had some delays and struggles with HOA, but knowing that Zar's was in our corner and doing all the work to get everything approved, we had no worries. Work was completed on schedule, even with weather delays. John and Toby walked us through and answered all our questions along the whole build process. We also know we can still call with any more questions we have along the way, even though the job is complete.
